RED TYPE INK's Red and Black Collection of notecards feature iconic images from our large collection of vintage art reference catalogs published in the 1970s. These compendiums of revolutionary "clip art," contain hundreds of images each, and were printed in the tens of thousands and circulated extensively throughout the country for the benefit of artists, educators and graphic designers.
The anonymous artists who created these images combined the styles of traditional woodblock prints and paper-cuts with the graphic power of poster art. Inspired by Chinese folktales, music and art, the images brilliantly recast classical themes and motifs within the context of a new China. Printed like the originals in striking red and black ink, the note cards in this collection have been chosen to reflect the range of vivid and engaging work fashioned by these artists.
